Perceptions of the Fiscal Challenges Facing Athletic Departments of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Research has shown the athletic departments of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) do not generate significant revenue. The financial struggle facing HBCU can be explained using Resource Dependency theory. Specifically, as HBCUs are most under-resourced member institutions National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), numbers prove how these have funds to invest in their programs. purpose this study is explore fiscal challenges departments. To gather information, two different groups participants were interviewed obtain an independent insider perspective challenges.
